BIM to CAD: Integrated delivery of bridge projects in 2D and 3D

One of the barriers to effective BIM implementation for bridge design a fragmented workflow. For many projects, engineers create separate bridge models (geometric, structural, analytical) and devise 2D representations of rebar detailing, quantities and geometry reporting. Information stored in different models and formats creates an increased risk of errors and inconsistencies whenever a model is updated.

This drastically increases the risk of discrepancies and re-work, while quickly eroding design budgets. In some cases, the errors are not detected until the project is on-site, resulting in time delays end cost overruns.

In this webinar we discuss an integrated CAD and BIM approach to project delivery, which allows engineers to work in a 2D CAD environment to deliver both 3D BIM models and high-quality 2D deliverables from the same workflow.

Proceeding from a 3D model created and detailed in past webinars,

Conceptual Design: Great Bridges Begin with Great Models

Detailed design: Better solutions for common bridge modeling

our engineers will show how to create precisely formatted CAD sheets for delivery in multiple common formats to different clients. Using a 3D model to drive 2D sheets augments the existing plans production process with the best features of 3D modeling, including intelligent rebar detailing, conflict detection, and quantities/geometry reporting. It streamlines QA/QC by deriving all plans, quantities, and reinforcement schedules from the data and geometry contained in the BIM model, ensuring that deliverables are consistent and responsive to change.
